Men of God Retreat 2014

“As Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another”
Proverbs 27:17

We are really excited about the upcoming Men of God retreat! We’re so excited about it, in fact, that we want to unveil some of the things we’re doing April 4th-6th  so that you can be as excited as we are!

The first thing to say is that this retreat is going to be much more informal than our normal high school retreats go. We will not have a tight schedule with a rigid interchange of sessions and games. We won’t have mass or adoration while we are out at the Scott farm camping.

What we will be doing is cooking our own food over the campfire, praying the liturgy of the hours at each meal (a combination of psalms and readings from the New Testament), and having conversational sessions on the following topics: Fatherhood – what it means that God is Father. Chastity – how to channel our powerful sexual desires toward the purposes that God intended for them. Responsibility – A man’s vocation.

Between these conversational sessions, we will play physically competitive games like capture the flag and enjoy a good bit of free time to just hang out and get to know each other out on the Scott farm. On Saturday night we will pray through the following scripture passage in a prayer experience designed to reveal Christ to us not just as a human being, but as the example of what a Man ought to be.

“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water  with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.” – Ephesians 5:25-27

This is a great retreat for guys of all ages.

Here are a few things that have been said about it by those who attended last year:

“The retreat allowed me to open up to God in a whole totally new way that I never had before. Out in the woods you are so much more connected to God and it was a really cool thing.” - Jacob Macdonald

“Last year’s MOG/WOG retreat was the highlight of my spring break. Being outdoors with all the guys was awesome, and the food was great too. The talks were really sound and open, and it felt like everyone there, leaders and kids, grew in faith with each other. Really it was just good to get away from the noise of everyday life, have fun with your friends, and to learn about God at the same time. I highly recommend every single dude in the youth group come to this. I speak for everyone last year when I say you won’t regret it.” - Blake Henson

“The MOG/WOG retreat is one of the most fun retreats I’ve been on! I feel like I grew a lot as a man and I loved everything about it!” - Jarret Criss
